Speaking before the National Assembly, newly elected President Luong Cuong said he would do his best to fulfill his duties as President according to the Constitution of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam and the tasks entrusted to him by the Party, State and People.

At the 8th session held this afternoon (October 21), with 100% of National Assembly deputies participating in the vote, the National Assembly passed a resolution to elect Comrade Luong Cuong, Politburo member and Permanent Secretary of the Secretariat, to hold the position of President of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam for the 2021-2026 term.

After the oath-taking ceremony, President Luong Cuong delivered a speech before the National Assembly.

New President Luong Cuong expressed: "At this special moment, I am very moved, honored and fully aware of the great responsibility before the Party, the State and the People when the National Assembly trusted and elected me to hold the position of President of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam".

President Luong Cuong respectfully thanked the Party Central Committee, the Politburo, the Secretariat, General Secretary To Lam and the leaders of the Party and State for trusting and recommending him to take on this noble responsibility; expressed his sincere respect and infinite gratitude to beloved Uncle Ho; deeply grateful for the great contributions of predecessors, veteran revolutionaries, heroic Vietnamese mothers, heroes, martyrs, wounded and sick soldiers, compatriots, comrades and people across the country who have strived, are ready to sacrifice and make sacrifices so that our country can have the foundation, potential, position and international prestige it has today.

"In February 1975, in the heroic atmosphere of the whole country turning towards the beloved South, I volunteered to join the army, with the awareness and thought: Go fight to liberate the South, unify the country and only hope that on the day of victory, I will return alive and happy; absolutely not thinking, not dreaming of reaching this level or that position.

Up to now, nearly 50 years have passed in the blink of an eye serving the revolution, I have experienced many working positions, been trained and tested in fighting to protect the Fatherland; matured from a soldier to a high-ranking leader of the Party.

No matter what position I hold, what task I am assigned, I am always steadfast, politically steadfast, absolutely loyal to the Party, the Fatherland and the People, strive to overcome difficulties and challenges, actively study, cultivate, train, maintain moral qualities, lifestyle and improve working capacity; wholeheartedly strive to successfully complete all tasks entrusted by the Party, State, Army and People", President Luong Cuong said.

On this occasion, President Luong Cuong expressed his deep gratitude to the Party, State, Army, Party committees and authorities at all levels; thanked the leaders, former leaders, comrades, teammates and the People for educating, training, loving, protecting, guiding and creating conditions for him to fulfill his duties and grow up as he is today.

In the face of the increasingly high demands of the cause of national construction and defense, in his new position, as he just swore before the National Assembly, compatriots, comrades and voters nationwide, President Luong Cuong said he will do his best to strive to fulfill his duties as President according to the Constitution of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam and the tasks entrusted by the Party, State and People.

Continue to maintain and strengthen high solidarity and unity within the Party; Together with the entire Party, the entire people and the entire army, continue to take care of building and promoting the strength of great national unity; build a clean and strong socialist rule-of-law state, truly of the people, by the people and for the people; strengthen national defense and security, build a revolutionary, disciplined, elite and modern people's armed forces, always being an absolutely loyal and trustworthy political and combat force of the Party, the State and the people.

Build and consolidate the "people's hearts position", a solid national defense position and a solid people's security position; consistently implement the foreign policy of independence, self-reliance, peace, friendship, cooperation and development, multilateralization, diversification, proactive and active international integration, ensuring the highest national interests, Vietnam is a friend, a reliable partner, an active and responsible member of the international community.

Resolutely and persistently defend the independence, sovereignty, unity and territorial integrity of the nation, maintain a peaceful and stable environment for national construction and development. Resolutely pursue the goal of national independence and socialism, strive to build a Vietnam with rich people, strong country, democracy, fairness, civilization, prosperity and happiness.
